In the United States and Canada the 24 hour clock is known as Military Time.
Because the 12 hour clock can cause dangerous mistakes, the military, emergency services, hospitals and some other specialists use Military Time.
In the US and Canada, writen military time usually does not have a colon to separate between hours and minutes. However, the 24 hour clock used in most of the countries of the world, do use a colon (hh:mm format).
